If you are fluent in CAD, then choose a university, which has degrees in engineering. People are looking for are the special effects: 1) the film title (grade film, but incredibly unversatile) and 2) with a degree in Engineering (incredibly versatile -) You can do something. Understanding of particle physics, mechanics, physics, electromagnetic waves, as well as physical (ie, sound and light) is an ideal candidate for special effects. I know someone with a degree in physics, which will work with sound effects. Engineering is just applied physics.
